Penn State will close out its regular-season schedule on the road at Rutgers on Sunday afternoon, and the Nittany Lions will once again be labeled an underdog in the Big Ten matchup. According to the gameday odds provided by Tipico, Penn State is a 5.5-point underdog in Piscataway on Sunday afternoon against the Scarlet Knights.
After dropping a competitive game at Illinois on Thursday, Penn State is now just 1-9 on the road this season in true road games. The only win away from the Bryce Jordan Center in a true road game came in early January at Northwestern. Although Penn State did get the best of Rutgers in their previous meeting this season, that game was played in Happy Valley, where Penn State has been far more consistent outside of their home finale against Nebraska. Let us never speak of that game again.
Both Rutgers and Penn State are playing for Big Ten tournament seeding as the conference tournament gets underway this week. Penn State needs a win and a loss by Maryland to secure the No. 10 seed. Any other outcome will pit Penn State in the first-round of the Big Ten tournament as the No. 11 seed.
Rutgers can climb as high as the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten tournament. Rutgers is already guaranteed to enter the conference tournament no worse than No. 6, which is the highest seed Rutgers will own in the Big Ten tournament since joining the Big Ten.
