Derek Carr has spent his entire career with the Raiders, and for now, it appears that it’s going to stay that way. The team is prepared to discuss a contract extension that will keep Carr in Las Vegas for the foreseeable future, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
It’s clear that new Raiders coach Josh McDaniels and new Las Vegas general manager Dave Ziegler are fans of Carr, who has one year left on his current contract. A three-time Pro Bowler, Carr threw for a career-high 4,804 yards this past season while helping the Raiders reach the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Carr and the Raiders enjoyed that success despite changing coaches and losing receiver Henry Ruggs III during the season.
The soon-to-be 31-year-old Carr is entering his ninth season with the Raiders. Sans his injury late in the 2016 season, Carr has been incredibly durable. He has started in 127 of a possible 129 regular-season games. Carr has also been one of the league’s most accurate passes since the start of the 2018 season. Over that span, Carr has completed 68.9, 70.4, 67.3 and 68.4 percent of his throws, respectively.
