One of the top prospects from the state of North Carolina in the 2023 recruiting cycle has decided to stay close to home with four-star tight end Javonte Vereen committing Friday to Dave Doeren and NC State live on CBS Sports HQ. In addition to being a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite, Vereen ranks as the No. 17 tight end in the country and No. 11 player in the state.

It’s clear why Power Five programs are interested in Vereen’s athleticism because he’s done a little bit of everything in high school. Vereen played basketball and baseball as a sophomore, and in 2021 was a two-way player for the football team with more than 1,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, while adding 45 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles on defense.
